Problem: the Comcast/Xfinity XR2/XR5/XR11/XR15 remote isn’t working
If your Xfinity remote isn’t working, there are a few things you can try to troubleshoot the issue.
First, check the batteries in your remote. If they are low, try replacing them with fresh batteries. If that doesn’t work, try resetting your remote. To do this, press and hold the “Setup” button for three seconds, then release. Press and hold the “Xfinity” button for five seconds. This will reset your remote and should fix the problem.
If neither of these solutions works, you may need to replace your remote. You can do this by ordering a new one from Comcast/Xfinity, or by purchasing a compatible universal remote.
Solution 1: Check the Batteries
If your Xfinity remote isn’t working, the first thing you should check is the batteries. Over time, batteries will naturally lose their charge and will need to be replaced. If the batteries in your remote are old, they may not be providing enough power to properly operate the remote.
To check the batteries, remove them from the remote and test them with a voltmeter. If the batteries are dead, replace them with new ones. If the batteries are not dead, try cleaning the battery contacts with a cotton swab dipped in rubbing alcohol. This will remove any dirt or debris that may be preventing the batteries from making a good connection.
Solution 2: Clean the Remote
If the batteries are good and the contacts are clean, the next thing to try is cleaning the remote. Over time, dirt and debris can build up on the buttons and in the crevices of the remote, preventing it from working properly.
To clean the remote, use a can of compressed air to blow out any dirt and debris. You can also use a cotton swab to clean the buttons and crevices. Be sure to use a clean, dry cloth to wipe down the outside of the remote.
Solution 3: Replace the Remote
If you’ve tried all of the above solutions and the remote still isn’t working, it may be time to replace it. Xfinity remotes are relatively inexpensive and can be found at most electronic stores.
When choosing a new remote, be sure to get one that is compatible with your Xfinity cable box. Most Xfinity remotes are universal, but there are a few models that are specific to certain models of cable boxes.
If you’re having trouble finding a compatible remote, you can always contact Xfinity customer service for help.
Solution 2: Check If the Remote Is Synced
If you’re sure that the batteries are inserted correctly and that they have power, the next step is to check if the remote is synced with your TV Box. To do this:
Press and hold the SETUP button on your remote until the LED at the top of the remote changes from red to green.
Press the TV power button on the remote.
If the TV turns on, the remote is synced with the TV Box. If it doesn’t, repeat steps 1-3.
Solution 3: Check for Obstacles
If your Xfinity remote isn’t working, it could be because there’s something blocking the signal between your remote and the TV box. Check for any obstacles between the two devices, and remove them if possible. If there’s still no signal, try moving the TV box to a different location.
If you have a cable box from Xfinity, you may need to unplug it and plug it back in. This will reset the box and may clear up any issues with the remote. To do this, locate the cable box power cord and unplug it from the power outlet. Wait 30 seconds, then plug it back in. Once the cable box has restarted, try using the remote again.
If you’re still having trouble, there are a few other things you can try.
Solution 4: Check the TV Input
If your Xfinity remote is not working, one of the first things you should check is the TV input. If the TV input is not set to the correct input, the remote will not work. To change the TV input, press the TV input button on the Xfinity remote. A menu will pop up on the screen. Use the arrow keys to navigate to the correct input and press the Select button.
Solution 5: Try a Factory Reset
If your Xfinity remote still isn’t working after trying all of the above solutions, you can try resetting it to factory default settings. To do this, press and hold the Setup button on your remote for 5 seconds. Then, enter 9-8-1 on the keypad. The LED will blink twice to indicate that the remote has been reset.
There are a few reasons why your Xfinity remote might not be working. The most common reason is that the batteries are dead. You can try replacing the batteries to see if that fixes the problem. If not, there are a few other things you can try.
One possible solution is to reprogram your remote. To do this, you’ll need the code for your TV. You can find this code in the Xfinity manual or online. Once you have the code, follow the instructions in the manual to reprogram your remote.
If that doesn’t work, you can try resetting the remote to factory default settings. To do this, press and hold the Setup button on your remote for 5 seconds. Then, enter 9-8-1 on the keypad. The LED will blink twice to indicate that the remote has been reset.
